Some weeks, it’s not procrastination.
It’s just… life.
Sometimes Life Has Other Plans
This week, life got in the way.
As a result, I spent more time in the car yesterday than doing anything on my to-do list. And instead of shrinking, that list seemed to grow at an impressive, slightly rude rate. You know the kind of week.
This morning, here I am trying to check off a few things, including my writing. I enjoy this space. It gives me time to reflect and sort through my thoughts, even if I allow a few interruptions.
One of those interruptions, however, was my husband.
He had stayed overnight at the hospital with his mom. She had emergency surgery to remove a kidney that had been causing problems for a long time. It had been overlooked, misdiagnosed, and lingering for years.
This time, persistence mattered. We didn’t let it go.
Questions were asked, the right people finally listened, and because of that, she’s doing well.
Looking back, that’s what stayed with me.
As I thought about it later, I realized her recovery wasn’t the result of just one good doctor or one successful surgery. It was the result of people working together. Questions being asked. Family showing up. Skilled professionals doing what they do best. Everyone playing a role at exactly the right time.
A Dream Team Doesn’t Happen by Accident
The timing was right and the dream team was assembled (a hard thing to do, by the way). A dream team filled with skilled people, willing people, and available people all aligned around one goal.
Her surgery went better than expected because of that team.
To me, that’s the power of a dream team. It can make or break an outcome.
In our case, it changed everything.
Who’s on Your Dream Team?
So let me ask you this. Do you have a dream team?
Have you gathered the people who support you when things get heavy? The ones who show up when timing matters most? The ones who know what to do, or at least know who to call?
Then again, maybe you are the dream team.
You’re the one everyone calls first. The person who keeps track of appointments, notices when something seems off, remembers the medications, asks the questions, and quietly holds everything together. You may have become so used to carrying that responsibility that you’ve forgotten what it feels like to let someone else help. The steady one. The helper. The problem-solver. The person who gives and lifts and supports so naturally that no one even notices how much weight you’re carrying.
If that’s you, this is your reminder: even the strong need support.
Take a few moments today to think about your dream team. If you don’t have one yet, who could be part of it?
Who could you lean on? Who might you support?
Don’t rule out the unlikely ones. Sometimes the best team members are the diamonds you almost overlook.
Next time, we’ll talk about procrastination.
Is it harmful… or can it actually be helpful?
The answer might surprise you.
